Project Title: Improving livelihoods and raising awareness about climate change through biomass management and sustainable agriculture and ecotourism in the Shouf Biosphere Reserve - Together

Donor: The World Food Program (WFP), funded by The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Objectives:

• Ensuring food security through sustainable and sound practices.

• Improving landscapes through sound practices and awareness.

• Building the capacities of local communities.

• Securing sustainable livelihoods.

The activities:

• Cleaning and clearing forest sites.

• Shredding, composting and production of eco-briquette.

• Creation of trails and walking pathways.

• Restoration of agricultural terraces.

• Building the capacities of beneficiaries and partners through training courses related to the project's objectives.

• Developing production chains within the rural development program and building capacities of women.

• Carrying out some experiments related to water conservation and collection in multiple locations.

• Irrigation works and methods to reduce evaporation.

In numbers:

• 588 beneficiaries from the local community (Lebanese and Syrian, males and females).

• More than 34 participants / beneficiaries in the administrative activities.

• Works in 18 villages.

• 2,940 direct beneficiaries and 14,700 indirect beneficiaries.

• Irrigation and covering the soil for more than 69,000 plants.

• Pruning and clearing more than 35 hectares of forests.

• Establishment and maintenance of more than 40 km of trails.

• Restoration of more than 420 square meters of agricultural walls.

• Restoration of more than 10 hectares of agricultural land.

• Production of more than 400 tons of compost.

And 200 tons of eco-briquette, and 2.5 tons of jam,

And 2.5 tons of vinegar
